History of the Commodore's Club

The Club was founded in 2001 to provide a list of fun things for children to do on and near Mishaum.  The idea was formulated by the observation that television had started to creep into many houses on the Point, and worse still, children were starting to play video games because they did not know how else to amuse themselves.

George Pingeon and Daniel Vizinni were in many ways pioneers for the inspiration of the club.  Both boys had a true zest for adventure, but had succumbed to video games because a lack of understanding of what else was available to them. In the late 1990s Point Elders started to feed the boys suggestions for activities, and soon the video games were discarded for adventure.  The early work in adventure experimentation worked so well that that Elders decided to formalize the activity list and hence was born the Commodore's Club.

In 2001 the first list was published and children flocked to join.  It turned out the that list was difficult to complete and only those of rock-solid stock were able to endure the entire path to admission (Charter Members). This served only to increase the stature of the members and the thrill of the Cup.

Each year the Elders, through committee, revise and publish the list for the upcoming summer.  Some years it is hard and some years it is very hard.  Members must swim in great places, learn the local geography, and take some risks.  For those who make it, there is an engraved prize as well as an exclusive member's summer dinner.  From time to time, the club holds a winter dance in New York.
